Privacy policy

Last updated: 22 October 2026

In brief: Folio is a desktop PDF booklet maker. Your documents are intended to be processed locally in the application. This website offers optional analytics, which only runs if you accept it. Support requests are handled by email.

1. Who operates Folio?

Folio is published by Robert Nelson. For privacy enquiries, please contact privacy@foliobooklet.app. This policy covers the Folio desktop application, this marketing website and support enquiries.

2. Folio desktop application

Folio is designed to import PDF and EPUB documents, arrange their pages, design covers and create finished PDF files on your computer. The application is not intended to upload the contents of your documents to our servers, and we do not operate a Folio user account or cloud document library. The app may keep projects, preferences, layouts and exported files on your device at your direction.

We do not intentionally collect the contents of documents you create or import. Purchases, downloads and any store-level crash diagnostics may be handled by Apple, Microsoft or a direct-purchase provider under their own privacy terms. We do not receive your full payment-card details from app-store purchases.

3. Website data

When you visit our website, the hosting provider may process essential technical information such as IP address, browser details, request timestamps and error logs for service delivery, security and troubleshooting. Hosting logs are subject to the provider's configuration and retention period.

We use essential browser storage to remember cookie choices. If you consent, the site can also use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand aggregate traffic, use of pages and interaction patterns. These services may process identifiers, device/browser details, approximate location inferred from IP addresses, usage and interaction data. Clarity may use session recordings or heatmaps; avoid entering sensitive information in website forms. The integrations are not activated until their identifiers are configured and you consent.

4. Cookies and consent

Optional analytics technology remains disabled until you choose to allow it. You may reject it without losing access to the website. You can change your choice using Cookie settings in the website footer; withdrawing consent prevents further optional collection by the website, though it cannot retrospectively erase data already collected. To request deletion of identifiable information, contact us using the email address above.

5. Support emails

If you email us for help, we process your name, email address, message and any files or diagnostic information you choose to send, solely to respond to your enquiry, troubleshoot issues and retain necessary correspondence. Please avoid sending confidential document content unless needed for your request. Our legal basis is generally legitimate interests in responding to support enquiries, or steps associated with our contract with you.

6. Purposes and legal bases

We use essential website information to provide and secure the service (legitimate interests); support messages to answer requests and address issues (legitimate interests or contract); consented optional analytics to improve the website (consent); and information needed to meet legal requirements (legal obligation).

7. Third parties and international transfers

Website hosting providers, Google, Microsoft, email providers and the relevant app stores or payment processors may process limited information connected with their services. Their own terms and privacy notices also apply. Where personal information is transferred internationally, we rely on applicable safeguards arranged by our service providers where required.

8. How long information is kept

Local documents remain under your control until you remove them. Cookie preferences remain in your browser until you clear them or change your decision. Support correspondence is retained only as reasonably needed to resolve requests and meet applicable legal obligations. Website analytics retention and server-log retention depend on the settings of the activated services and hosting provider; these settings should be confirmed before launch.

9. Your rights

Subject to applicable UK data protection law, you may request access to, correction or deletion of your personal data, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent where relied upon, or request portability where applicable. Email privacy@foliobooklet.app. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

10. Children

Folio is a general-purpose publishing tool and this website is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children.

11. Changes

We may update this policy if the app, website or supporting services change. The date at the top indicates the current version.

Before publication: Check these statements against the final app build, website hosting logs, actual analytics settings, any direct-purchase provider, and your confirmed legal trading identity. This policy should not be treated as legal advice.
